DDP’s partnership with Mobility India began in 1997 shortly after their founding in 1994. We had a common interest in promoting better quality and sustainable rehabilitation services in India and so we started a 3 year project to introduce the Jaipur foot technology to rural rehabilitation centres via MI’s grassroots technical support programme in southern and north eastern India. At the same time we began work on their ‘Millenium Dream’ project – to establish MI’s Research and Rehabilitation Training Centre – a purpose-built fully accessible space.
We facilitated MI’s capacity building, as it has grown and expanded to become a professional, multi-stranded agency, by supporting the development and implementation of their strategic and business plans. We continue to work closely together to implement current programmes and to develop new work. The Education and Livelihood Opportunities programme will extend Mobility India’s expertise in the fields of inclusive education and advocacy, as they work with a range of stakeholders to influence opinion in favour of disabled children’s education and raising educational achievement.
There are many different aspects to our partnership as listed below. We are proud to have contributed to MI’s dynamic growth. Through this partnership we continue to make real changes in disabled people to lives in many parts of India and other countries.
