Miracles in Mozambique
Set up nearly 10 years ago, Miracles in Mozambique (MiM) have a staff of 17, all of whom currently work as volunteers. MiM is registered as a National Youth Organisation and are governed by a General Assembly and Fiscal Council. They are represented in three provinces in Mozambique: Maputo (357 members), Sofala (70) and Niassa (700) and will shortly be represented in Nampula.

MiM’s mission
Youth groups developed to fight social injustice.

MiM’s vision
To see MiM as a role model in inclusive development for sustainable development.

MiM’s main aims are
  • Youth leadership development for sustainable development
  • Civil society participation in development processes
  • Protection of the rights of underprivileged people (especially women and children and disabled people)
  • Promoting civic education to prevent and mitigate epidemic diseases such as HIV
DDP know MiM through their connection with our Mozambican partner, ADEMO – they have been working together since 2000. Both MiM and DDP have conducted research in Mozambique and we have concluded that, while disabled people are at least equally as vulnerable to HIV/AIDS as the general population, they are not included in the country’s policies and programmes. Together with ADEMO, we are now tackling this exclusion by designing a programme to assist mainstream HIV/AIDS service agencies to cater for disabled people’s needs while campaigning for their right to be included in government HIV/AIDS policy.
